Dress Code

It started as a dare. But Chiddix Junior High School ninth-grader Josh McElwee decided it was more an extension to a classroom lesson where students dressed in the native costumes of other nations: he came to school wearing one of his mother’s floral dresses. Principal Ed Heineman didn’t appreciate the learning experience, and sent McElwee home. The principal aside, “people really didn’t care, except some of the seventh- and eighth-graders,” McElwee said.
