Evacuation Overload
Claire Connelly left her home in New Jersey to go to college in Florida. Then came Hurricane Irma. Fortunately, Connelly was able to get a flight home — but it was via Michigan, and the drive to the airport was six hours. Eventually, she landed in Newark and made her way to a suburban train, and spent the ride studying. Then she woke up. “I was screaming at the top of my lungs for help,” she says. “No one answered. The train was completely empty and shut down for the night.” It hadn’t even been the right train: not only had the conductor not noticed she was on the train when it was shut down, someone had failed to notice her ticket was for another line. She called police, who rescued her — but blamed her for being irresponsible. (AC/NJ.com) ...Tell me again who was irresponsible in this story?Original Publication Date: 17 September 2017
