Fake Mews

“I’ve heard from a lot of people all over the country that say...they’ve never heard of anything like this,” Kate Roggenbaum said. “One comment was this must be fake news.” It wasn’t: her parents, Sue and Ray Jones, had been found guilty of creating a nuisance in Augusta, Kan., for feeding feral cats. They admit putting out water for the cats in their neighborhood while other residents laid out food, but the Joneses were the only people charged. After a year long court battle, another jury found them not guilty. “They couldn’t prove that we had violated the ordinances,” Ray said. “The jury only took about fifteen minutes.” Now the couple is working to change city policy to deal with the problem. “Our next challenge will be to try and convince the city to change their policy to provide a trap, neuter, vaccinate return policy so that the feral cats can be taken care of properly,” Ray said. (MS/KWCH Wichita) ...That would be the purrfect plan.
