Illegal Tamale Invasion

Tamales are a holiday treat. They take days to prepare. And sometimes, they’re illegal — or some of their ingredients are, if you’re bringing them into the United States. One passenger who flew from Mexico to Los Angeles International Airport with 450 pork tamales lost them all to Customs and Border Protection, which warns that “foreign meat products can carry serious animal diseases from countries affected by outbreaks of Avian influenza, mad cow and swine fever.” Authorities thought the illegal tamales were intended for sale, so they fined the person $1,000. And as for the tamales, they were “incinerated.” (AC/Los Angeles Times) ...That’s what they get for trying to take jobs away from good American tamales.
