Kayleb Moon-Robinson kicked a trash can. No big deal, you say? Disorderly conduct, said a police officer in Lynchburg, Va. He pushed the dread can-kicker down to cuff him — and when the boy tried to escape his grasp, that became an assault on an officer of the law. Kayleb Moon-Robinson is 12, is autistic, wears glasses, and enjoys science; he is now a felon, a status his mother thinks will stick with him even as an adult. The officer involved was a school resource officer. The Center for Public Integrity says Virginia leads the nation in turning student conduct issues into court cases.
