Let This Be a Lesson to Her
The Ohio County (W.Va.) Schools Public Credit Union gives teachers and staff a place to save their money. The credit union’s director, Kathleen Gramlich, 65, is the one who really made out: she stole $156,342.60 from member accounts over three years to pay off her own debts. The deposits “are insured by the National Credit Union Administration Board,” said U.S. Attorney Bill Ihlenfeld, and the account owners will be made whole. Gramlich faced 20 years in prison, and pleaded guilty to embezzlement. In addition to ordering she pay restitution, U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey ruled on her punishment: Gramlich was fined $100, and sent to jail for one day.
