Mayday
Two rescue boats went into action when Denmark’s Maritime Sea Rescue Command was told that a freighter was in distress, with one crewman washed overboard, off Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. They found nothing until the calls were traced to a drunk 52-year-old man playing with toy ships in his landlocked bathtub. He faces a fine of 10,000 crowns (US$1,400) after police charged the unidentified man with calling in a false alarm. (RC/Reuters) ...Responding officers deny charges they made fun of his dinghy.Original Publication Date: 16 January 2000
