Derris Devon McQuaig owns San Diego, Calif.’s $539 million Petco Park, home of the Padres. At least, that’s what the deed transfer he filed with the county recorder says. A criminal case was filed against him for fraud, which would have nullified the document, but it was dismissed after a psychiatrist said “there is no substantial likelihood that the defendant will regain mental competence in the foreseeable future.” The city is looking into civil options, but meanwhile the deed transfer remains on the books. County official Jeff Olson says documents must be recorded even if there is clearly no basis for them. (AC/San Diego Union-Tribune) ...So why not just file a deed transfer giving the stadium back to its rightful owners?
