Nice Try

Zak Hardy, 18, told police in Exeter, Devon, England, that he stuck his new cell phone into the shower at a public swimming pool to see if it was waterproof. Then, when he “shook it to dry it off of any water residue,” the phone “may have accidentally captured images.” The young lady who was in the shower had spotted the phone and objected strenuously when its flash went off, and that’s when police were called. On the advice of his attorney, Hardy didn’t try the same excuse when he went before a judge in the Exeter Magistrates’ Court; instead, he pleaded guilty to voyeurism and “recording a private act.” Hardy was given an 18 month community order with supervision, ordered to pay 150 pounds (US$238) in compensation to the victim, and ordered to register as a sex offender for five years. Meanwhile, his cell phone has been destroyed. (RC/Plymouth Herald) ...Waterproof: maybe. Crushproof: not.
