Political Expediency
Congressman Tim Murphy, 64, a Republican serving Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district for the past 14 years, is a Roman Catholic with a strong “pro-life” record. Murphy, a Ph.D. psychologist before his congressional career, revealed an extramarital affair with a woman half his age — also a psychologist — before the local newspaper could do so. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette got hold of the court papers when the mistress’s husband sued her for divorce. Part of the evidence: text messages between Murphy and the woman where Murphy suggested she should have an abortion when she thought she was pregnant. “You have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week!” she texted to him. Murphy’s response? He didn’t write such positions, “Staff does them.” Murphy has resigned, and it turned out his mistress was not pregnant after all. (RC/Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) ...Did he write his own letter of resignation?Original Publication Date: 15 October 2017
