Prosecutors Aren’t Just Playing

A bomb threat called in to Illinois’s Quad-City International Airport was specific, and chilling. Over several calls directly to the airport’s emergency number, the man specified a pipe bomb, and said “everybody” was going to be blown up. “You’re going to blow up too,” the man said. “I’m sorry, I gotta do it.” The airport was never evacuated, and police simply traced the number to a cell phone — purchased by an airport employee. The employee, in turn, had just given the phone to her son. Jeremie P. Franks, 28, who told FBI agents he was drunk and “just playing” to get his mother in trouble, was arrested and charged with willful threats. His mother said Franks had just spent 2-1/2 weeks in alcohol rehab — but didn’t complete the program. (RC/Quad-City Times) ...No kidding.
