“Other art is worth your while! Renoir paints a steaming pile!” was one of the chants. Signs said “God Hates Renoir” and simply “RENOIR” with the “NO” in giant letters. Such was the protest outside the Boston (Mass.) Museum of Fine Arts. Organizer Max Geller, who also denounces Renoir on Instagram (“Renoir Sucks at Painting”), says he wants the museum to take down its Renoirs. “My original response was, when your great-great-grandfather paints anything worth $78 million, then you can talk,” said Genevieve Renoir. But on further thought, she said Geller “really seems to be moved ... and I think that’s really the point of art.” (AC/Boston Globe, CBC) ...Maybe the “protest” was performance art.
