Rude Awakening
Kim Steffen-Brauch was taking an afternoon nap in her Weld County, Colo., home when “I felt this presence, almost like I could hear footsteps going across my living room,” she said. She jumped up and grabbed her pistol. Sure enough, she found herself face-to-face with a home-invasion burglar. Steffen-Brauch held the intruder at gunpoint and waited for sheriff’s deputies to arrive. Melanie Romero, 35, was not only charged with burglary, but also child abuse: she brought her three children along; deputies found them waiting in her car. Romero is suspected in a rash of area burglaries. (RC/KUSA Denver) ...Because not everyone works 9-5, Romero may end up doing 5-9.Original Publication Date: 26 July 2015
