Schism

Thanks to the strong Mormon influence there, Utah has notoriously strict liquor laws. For example, bartenders cannot drink while working. And that’s the rule that St. John the Baptist Parish, a Roman Catholic church in Draper, broke, says the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, during the church’s annual Festival of Roses. “It appears some of the volunteers had a little alcohol while serving — while they were volunteering — which is against state law,” said a DABC spokesman. The church was ordered to pay $600 in fines and associated fees, and the DABC emphasizes the church will still be able to serve sacramental wine. Parish priest Rick Sherman declared the fine a “blessing” since “It can help us ramp up the vigilance.” (RC/KSTU Salt Lake City) ...Whereas most use alcohol to ramp up their vengeance.
