She Can’t Bear It

“Thank you for leaving my kayak alone. I’m going to pepper-spray you in the face.” Those are the first words we hear Mary Maley say to a bear in a video she posted to YouTube. The bear approaches her, she sprays it, and it turns around ...and heads straight for her kayak. She screams in helpless anger (“Why are you breaking my kayak?! What am I going to do?”) and pleads for mercy (“Oh, why are you doing that? Bear, please stop!”), but the bear wrecks her boat. The video was taken from a U.S. Forest Service cabin in Berg Bay, Alaska, the agency confirmed, and in the text accompanying it on YouTube, Maley said the destruction of her kayak left her no way to travel on but to swim to a sailboat and hitch a ride to Wrangell Island. (AC/Anchorage Daily News) ...Why am I doing that? Because you pepper-sprayed me in the face, that’s why!
