“Had a citizen not alerted us to this, it’s a situation that would’ve turned out much differently,” said Henrico County (Va.) Sheriff’s Capt. David Kinkle. A witness had reported two children, aged 1 and 6, were left sitting in a car in a parking lot with the windows closed, with outside temperatures in the 90s; investigation showed they were there for more than an hour. “Their shirts were wet, sweat rolling off their brows,” Kinkle said. Deputies brought the kids inside and gave them cool drinks until their father arrived to pick them up. Their mother, Laquanda Newby, 25, was arrested and charged with child abuse. The parking lot was for the Henrico County Courthouse. Newby was there to turn herself in — on a warrant for leaving her children in her car on a hot day while she was shopping. (RC/WTVR Richmond) ...It’s time for Mr. Newby to shop for a new wife.
