The Third Time Will Be the Charm

“The last thing I would want to do is hit a family in a car,” says Frank Fierro, 75, a small plane pilot who made an emergency landing on a highway in East Moriches, on New York’s Long Island. “I was hoping to stop in the same spot, but on the median there was a truck,” he added. The “same spot” because Fierro had made an emergency landing in the same plane in almost the exact location just 8 days before. That time, he was able to land in the highway median, rather than in the traffic lanes. The cause both times, he said, was “engine trouble.” The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating whether to take action against Fierro. (RC/WABC New York) ...While “Any landing you can walk away from is a good one,” the FAA sometimes has another opinion.
