There’s Something Fishy About This
The city of Aspen, Colo., provides office space for the county’s Community Development Department. The intergovernmental agreement between the city and the county to allow that has a specific clause that really needs to be there, officials say. The agreement is “on the condition that microwaving fish sticks is strictly prohibited,” the IGA says. County Commissioner Steve Child spotted the clause in the agreement, which was up for renewal, and asked if it was still necessary. Community Development said it was “adamant” about the clause. “There was a fish sticks incident,” confirmed county building official Brian Pawl. “Yes, they did away with fish sticks, fish products and broccoli.” On the other hand, he added, “They didn’t do away with Brussels sprouts. I was surprised about that.” The clause has been part of the IGA for abut 10 years, Pitkin County Community Development Director Cindy Houb confirmed.
