We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Registration
“It’s not you, it’s the city,” said a highway patrolman to police officer Bob Brooks after Brooks was involved in an accident in his Kinloch, Mo., police car. “The city has failed to register the motor vehicle. It’s registered to someone in Barnhart.” Another vehicle, which a cab company had painted and donated to the department, was still registered to the company. Kinloch police chief K.O. Williams said the city doesn’t insure its cars. And because the city doesn’t have workers’ compensation, either, Brooks says his accident — which happened while he was conducting a chase — left him with six-figure medical bills. Williams says the city can’t afford to take care of all these things because of theft. (AC/KTVI St. Louis) ...Did someone steal Williams’ sense of responsibility?Original Publication Date: 10 July 2016
