Whoa There, Drunken Canadian Canoeists

The Canadian Parliament has reversed course on its plan to clear up a “gray area” in the drunk driving law to make it clear it’s not a crime to paddle a canoe while drunk, as Ontario was being rather strict in its interpretation (This is True, last week). Instead, they struck the amendment after the Canadian Safe Boating Council testified that allowing drunk boating would “send the wrong message” to Canadians. In fact, they were so convincing that the Justice Committee backed the reversal unanimously. On the other hand, the reason the idea came up in the first place is because the vague “gray area” didn’t define “water-going vessels,” but they’re planning to leave the vague language in place so that courts will develop case law to define it for them. (RC/National Post) ...Canadian politicians: just as lazy as their colleagues to the south.
