Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced a proposal to increase the country’s retirement age to qualify for pensions to age 65 (from 60) for men, and to age 63 (from 55) for women. The life expectancy for men in Russia is 65.3 years; for women it’s 77.1 years. The announcement was timed for the opening game of the World Cup, and it worked out particularly well for the Putin government: Russia won the opening game 5-0.
