A Graceless Dive
A man in Manhattan in New York went up to the roof of a building, took off an exhaust fan, and went sliding towards the basement, where — he told the woman who called 911 for him — he thought there was a pool. But the narrowness of the ventilation shaft trapped him at the first floor, inside the woman’s wall. NYFD Chief Patrick Tansey said 40-plus firefighters participated in the rescue. “The shaft was so small that his body took up the entire vent,” he said. “So using power tools was out of the question. We had to expose him by hand.” And expose him they did: he was in his underwear. But he wasn’t badly injured nor, apparently, intoxicated. (AC/WPIX New York) ...Maybe he was just drunk on the endless possibilities of New York.Original Publication Date: 15 January 2017
