Always Check Their Math
James W. Gertie, a bus driver in Des Plaines, Ill., has filed a lawsuit against Karis Management Co., of Des Plaines, a McDonald’s restaurant franchisee in the area. Gertie says he purchased the two cheeseburger “Extra Value Meal” at five of Karis’s McDonald’s outlets for $5.90, but then discovered that it wasn’t a very good “value” as the items purchased individually only come to $5.49. It wasn’t reported how much his suit is asking for, but he’s applied for class action status to represent everyone who has purchased the meal. “The reason that I am doing this is not about the 41 cents. It’s because of the principle,” Gertie says. “If a company advertises something to be a value, then that is what it should be.” (RC/Arlington Heights Daily Herald) ...Sure it’s an extra value — just not for you.Original Publication Date: 15 January 2017
