A Line in the ...Ice Cream?

Traci Schmidley, mother of six and foster mom to several more kids, bought a tub of Blue Bell’s ice cream flavor they call “The Great Divide” — half chocolate, and half vanilla, divided down the middle. When she put it in front of her kids — some black and some white — the oldest said the line dividing the flavors reminded him of the Mason Dixon Line. “[He] jokingly commented that the Great Divide flavor should be called the Civil War flavor,” Schmidley said in a blog post. So, the Louisiana family discussed the flavor and the name. “Two of my sons and one of their friends got to work,” Schmidley said, “and within twenty minutes they had come up with a brilliant alternative name: Better Together.” Her son explained the name reflects both their family and their country. “[W]e really are all better and stronger when we are together,” he said, “not when we are in separate containers.” The family posted their idea on Facebook, and the post was shared over 12,000 times, with a flood of comments supporting the name change.
