A Matter of Trusts

Richard Sherwood was a town justice in Guilderland, N.Y., and he’d even once chaired the Albany County Ethics Commission. Yet prosecutors say he and Thomas K. Logan, also an attorney, diverted roughly $4 million from trust accounts under their supervision to other accounts, including the “Empire Capital Trust,” which the complaint says was actually for their own benefit. The money was supposed to go to charity. Sherwood has been suspended from his judicial role, but he and Logan, who face multiple felony charges, have been released on their own recognizance. (AC/Albany Times Union) ...Because, of course, Sherwood is a former ethics chair, they're both lawyers, and they deserve to be trusted — unless, of course, you're assuming they’re guilty.
