Ask Me Anything 003 …the Most Interesting Honorary Unsubscribe

Let’s get away from ship life for a bit!

Randy Cassingham, smiling with glasses and a goatee, next to large blue text reading Ask me Anything. Below, smaller text says A Little Video Series from This is True, and Full Disclaimer: Answers Optional. This video series is a classic Ask Me Anything, with 1-2 questions answered each week. It’s for ThisIsTrue.com readers who are curious about whatever. Questions are accepted (only) from Premium subscribers. My wife and I live on a Residential Cruising ship, and I record from my office there.

Questions in this Episode:

  • 1:04 Ollie in Virginia: Who was your favorite/most interesting Honorary Unsubscribe?
  • 4:50 Jeffrey in Nevada: Will A.I. be able to replicate your newsletter soon?

Link to my podcast about Reynold Johnson of IBM, my favorite H.U.

Since Youtube Comments are typically a vast, brain-free wasteland of obliviocy, I’m putting the videos on my site where there can be intelligent discussion. The comments are NOT a place to ask questions.

This page is an example of my style of “Thought-Provoking Entertainment”. This is True is an email newsletter that uses “weird news” as a vehicle to explore the human condition in an entertaining way. If that sounds good, click here to open a subscribe form.

To really support This is True, you’re invited to sign up for a subscription to the much-expanded “Premium” edition:

Q: Why would I want to pay more than the minimum rate?

A: To support the publication to help it thrive and stay online: this kind of support means less future need for price increases (and smaller increases when they do happen), which enables more people to upgrade. This option was requested by existing Premium subscribers.

  1. I’m so used to clicking a thumbs-up on videos, it feels weird not to be able to. Consider this my “thumbs up”. I think this series is going to be very interesting. Thank you for all you do!

You can click Like if you click on the “Watch on Youtube” bar (to click Like there). It’s also posted to True’s Facebook page, but those are harder to find if you’ve not chanced upon them. But really, I’d much rather have a Comment than a Like! So, thanks: I’m glad you seem to be enjoying them. -rc

  2. I was intrigued by the combination of Honorary Unsubscribe and AI and your assertion (which I concur with) that AI misses the point.

However, I thought I’d give it a bit of a try (the prompt needs refining), and it gave me a really interesting response about someone I had heard of (one of the prompt refinements I think I need to add), but knew very little about. Try this prompt to see what you get, I got a story about Lord Paul (an industrialist and politician).

Tell me about someone who had a key impact during their life that i Wish i Had Known who died in the last 7 days.

That prompt is sort-of what I do when I’m not finding someone to feature myself. That sort of research is done pretty well by A.I. It’s telling the story of the person in a compelling way — without making stuff up — that is unreliable. Once I get a name I can do my own research, but cGPT has never given me a compelling and true story about the person. -rc
