Bait and Switch
The CBS affiliated program Inside Edition was shooting a story on an “epidemic” of car break ins in California’s Bay Area. They equipped high priced items with GPS tracking devices and left them in plain view in a “bait” car parked in Alamo Square in San Francisco. When a man was seen stealing the items, the crew followed and confronted him. “Five million people are gonna see you steal that,” Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero told the man. “So you can choose to give it back or not.” He did. When the crew later returned to their van, they found it had been broken into. “They stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment,” Guerrero said.
