Bald Reality
“They’re dropping the garbage all over,” said Metropolitan King County, Wash., Councilman Reagan Dunn. The birds he was speaking of include roughly 200 bald eagles that scavenge for food in the local landfill. “Anybody that lives within close flying distance of the landfill knows that the eagles deposit this stuff everywhere,” said David Vogel, who showed the council something he had, he said, spotted in his own yard: a bag of blood. The council voted to require officials to identify “proposed bird control methods,” but under federal law, it’s a crime to disturb or molest bald eagles.
