The lines at California’s Department of Motor Vehicles are so long, the DMV has announced it will be open on Saturdays at 60 field offices — and will now allow people to bring food and drinks into DMV offices so they don’t pass out while waiting. Even the legislature has chipped in, adding $16 million to the DMV’s budget so they can hire 230 more workers to help ease the crunch. Legislators can afford the gesture now that a local TV station has revealed they gave themselves a perk that mere citizens don’t get: their own private DMV branch, hidden in a legislative office building in Sacramento. “Room 121” is unmarked, kept locked, and not available to the public — just legislators and their staff.
