But He Didn’t Rescue the Homeowners
State troopers arrived at a call in Halfmoon, N.Y., to find a man standing “heroically” with a large dog in his arms. Michael Orchard, 43, told troopers he had saved the dog from the raging house fire — you know, that one right there. The homeowners say Orchard had driven his BMW from his house to theirs across neighbors’ yards, rammed through their fence and onto their lawn, broke into the house through the front door, grabbed the dog, and ran out. Their house was not on fire. Troopers pressed Orchard further: he allegedly admitted to have mixed cough medicine with LSD. Orchard was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief — but not drug charges since he never drove on the street, and “no illegal substances were found in his possession,” a trooper said.
