England’s Marks and Spencer store chain has given up on trying to sell “cauliflower steaks” — a slab of the vegetable for 2.50 pounds (US$3.50), after ridicule online. If someone was apt to cook a slab of cauliflower as a steak, they could simply buy a whole one for 79 pence (US$1.10) and cut a few “steaks” for themselves, online posters sneered. “Once we’ve sold the stock that is currently in stores,” a Marks and Spencer spokesman said, “we won’t be ordering any more of this product.” (RC/BBC) ...There were 20 in stock at press time, or a 10-year supply.
