Castaways

Two fisherman in Man., Canada, heard something odd from an uninhabited island in the 63-mile-long Cross Lake. “We heard this noise, you know crying or something,” said J.R. Cook. “We looked out with our binoculars in the dark, we could see shadows, we weren’t sure what it was.” At first light, they went for a closer look and found seven puppies had been abandoned there, and were starving. “There are three girls and four boys,” says Debra Vandekerkhove, director of Norway House Animal Rescue, who has brought the dogs back to the mainland. The 6- to 8-week-old pups were named Gilligan, Skipper, Professor, Ginger, Mary Ann, Thurston Howell III, and Mrs. Howell — after the “seven stranded castaways” of the 1964-1967 Gilligan’s Island TV show. Once their health is regained, they’ll be put up for adoption; the waiting list is already growing. (RC/Global News Canada) ...Of course, three times as many will want Mary Ann over Ginger.
