Court of Violation

While pregnant, Pacchieri, 33, went to Britain for training as a flight attendant; she was sent home to Italy without her child. Pacchieri had a panic attack and was hospitalized against her will. Then the Court of Protection ordered that her baby be removed from her body — and directed that she not be warned before the procedure that authorities were seeking control of the child. Pacchieri had been deemed mentally unfit and “represented” by a lawyer who hadn’t even met her. Later, even after finding Pacchieri eloquent in her own behalf, a judge ordered the baby placed for adoption.
