Kissimmee, Fla., mayor pro tem Sara Shaw was suspended from office, and current mayor Jim Swan said she will no longer be receiving a paycheck from the city. The suspension came about after Shaw and her boyfriend were arrested on charges of grand theft and fraud. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement alleges that the couple squatted in a dead woman’s home, and used her money to pay for utilities. Swan said he was “extraordinarily disappointed, a little bit angry,” though Shaw proclaimed her innocence. According to the Kissimmee Utility Authority, Shaw and her boyfriend had also tried to turn on utilities at a mobile home — but couldn’t, since the couple still owed the company $1,200.
