Furfuffle
Scott Chamberlain was a town councilman in New Milford, Conn. But he is a furry — a subculture involving dressing as an animal, role playing, and sharing stories. “It’s nothing to do with sex; it’s an interest in cartoon animals,” he said. Chamberlain was running for reelection when someone got screenshots of his profile on a furry website — they would have to have created an account on the site to do so, Chamberlain said — and local resident Rick Agee posted those images to Facebook. Citizens were furious: not at the privacy violation, but at what Chamberlain was doing on the website. The site asks users to specify which features they “love, like, tolerate, or hate” in stories, he explained, and he classified rape under “tolerates.” Chamberlain was driven from office, and local Democrats took down a sign at their headquarters promoting his campaign. “I have kids and grandkids in this town,” said Agee, “and I don’t want him representing us.” (AC/Danbury News-Times) ...Yeah, they might think it was OK to be a little weird in private.Original Publication Date: 10 September 2017
