Icy Hot

“When I received the phone call,” says Jacques Desbois, manager of the Quebec City, Que., Canada, ice hotel, “they had to repeat twice that there was a fire in the ice hotel.” The hotel’s 45 guest rooms were evacuated as smoke spread through the building. The fire didn’t spread, however, and the cause is under investigation. “In a room made out of ice and snow,” Desbois said, “there are few clues to look at.” Witnesses said the fire was caused by a candle falling on a guest’s sleeping bag. Nobody was seriously injured, and the hotel closed to clean up the smoke damage. (MS/CBC) ...They’d better re-open soon: their income is melting away.
