Ignoring All the Signs

“The dismembered body of the [police] chief was located,” announced Green Bay (Wisc.) Police Capt. John Laux. However, “Officers were unable to recover the head.” Don’t worry, the “dismembered body” in question was a cardboard cutout of Chief Andrew Smith — part of an anti shoplifting campaign. Life sized cutouts were handed out to merchants all over town, featuring a stern looking Chief Smith warning against the dangers of shoplifting. A man in one store apparently failed to heed the sign’s advice, and stole the cutout. Officers were able to track down the suspect and get most of the copped cardboard chief back. “Unfortunately, he was broken,” Laux said. (MS/Green Bay Press Gazette) ...At least the department’s sense of humor wasn’t.
