U.S. Border Patrol agent Dennis Dickey, 37, held a gender reveal party in Madera Canyon, Ariz., to celebrate the upcoming birth of his child. He did the reveal by shooting a target packed with the explosive Tannerite, and colored powder: blue for a boy, or pink for a girl. He shot the target and the result was ...a wildfire that burned 47,000 acres, took a week to put out, and cost about $8.2 million to suppress. Dickey pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of causing a fire without a permit, and will pay $220,000 in restitution. “It was a complete accident,” Dickey said. “I feel absolutely horrible about it. It was probably one of the worst days of my life.” Since the fire wasn’t willfully set, Dickey was charged with a petty offense instead of arson, and will likely keep his job with the Border Patrol.
