James Leslie Kelly says he went to a Verizon store in Highlands County, Fla., and spent an hour and a half there — and what the company did was so negligent, it caused him a “loss of civil liberties and freedoms.” That’s why he’s suing for $72 million: if the Verizon employee he dealt with hadn’t let him get $300 worth of goods and services from Verizon using the identity of a customer with a similar but not identical name, he would not now be serving a 10-year sentence for doing so.
