Keeping Score
In 2015, Brianne Altice, then 36 and an English teacher at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, was sentenced to 2–30 years in prison after being convicted of having sex with several of her students. One of the boys has sued in federal court, saying the school district should have done more to protect him from her. In a recent handwritten response to the suit from prison, Altice says she “had no evil or malicious intent to cause harm” to the boy, and claims he benefitted from her special attention. “Prior to the 2012-2013 school year,” she wrote, the boy’s “attendance and school behavior was a problem causing low grades and suspensions from school.” But with her help, his “attendance, grades, and behavior improved during his 2012-2013 school year, allowing him to meet his goal to graduate a semester early.” (RC/Deseret News) ...One way or another, she liked giving him A’s.Original Publication Date: 17 April 2016
