Legal Ploy
A jury only took 4-1/2 hours to convict Christopher Garnier, 30, of second-degree murder. The Nova Scotia, Canada, man met a woman in a bar, took her home for sex, and then beat and choked her until she was dead. He then dumped her body in a compost bin, rolled it to a hillside, and dumped her. Catherine Campbell, 36, wasn’t found for five days, and Garnier was arrested after police noticed he drove to the scene — with a can of gasoline. Campbell was an off-duty police officer; Garnier was a firefighter. The conviction carries an automatic life sentence, but Garnier’s attorney, Joel Pink, is asking for leniency because Garnier has post traumatic stress disorder. And what led to his PTSD? His murder of Campbell.
