Lord, Give Me a Sign
The Rev. Bob Marshall of the Ebenezer Baptist Chapel in Buckley, Wales, likes to catch attention with a sign outside his church. A recent message caught plenty of attention. “It’s obvious to me what I meant,” he said later, “but it never really entered my mind it had another meaning.” The sign read, “Forgiveness is swallowing when you want to spit” — a dubious sexual double entendre for a pastor to advertise. Marshall, who grew up in Indiana before moving to Wales 30 years ago, says he “had no idea what it meant over here.” The pastor says he’ll be soliciting input on future signs. (RC/Conwy Daily Post) ...Great! Try this one: “The most powerful position is on your knees.”Author’s Note: A New York church tried the same wording almost exactly six years later. See “Lord, Give Me a Sign Too” in Volume 29.
