New Wheels

Even though she is still presumed innocent, a DWI arrest cost Tara Monroe her license (the state suspended it) and her Jeep (to pay her legal costs, her father said). And she didn’t want to trade down to two wheels. “Riding a bike around campus sucks,” said the student at Texas State University in San Marcos. “Like, really sucks.” So the 20-year-old, 5-foot-3 industrial engineering major found a new car for $60 — a car that many of her fellow students find unusual enough to photograph as it goes by. It’s a pink Barbie Jeep with a 12-volt battery, formerly owned by a much younger lady. It goes a whopping 5 m.p.h. (AC/San Antonio Express-News) ...The seller was surprised. Texas State students are startled. But if her mechanic has to install a Breathalyzer in a Barbie Jeep, he’ll be shocked.
