No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

The Indiana Department of Transportation’s Adopt A Highway program has a new “adopter” for a two mile stretch of U.S. Highway 421, and nearby neighbors aren’t happy. While the Satanic Temple Indiana Chapter has already cleaned up its section twice in its first year, Jill Konija, whose property line is next to the temple’s piece of road, doesn’t like the group’s name on the sign. “It’s like advertising a Satanic church in front of our home,” she said. According to chapter head Damien Blackmoor, the group is atheistic and doesn’t worship Satan, although they do host several events like the Pagan Pride Field Trip and Lunch with Lucifer. Konija’s next door neighbor is more accepting. “My reaction was if they wanna clean the highway, they’re more than welcome to,” Fritz Kolmerton said. INDOT says the stretch of highway — through Zionsville — will remain the responsibility of the Satanic Temple.
