Not So Major Awards

Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wisc., has an annual banquet celebrating the accomplishments of cheerleaders at the school. The awards given to the girls included the “Big Booty” for the largest buttocks, the “Big Boobie” (you can guess that one), and the “String Bean” for the skinniest. In one banquet video, coaches can be heard talking about the recipient of the “Big Booty” award. “We love her butt,” they said. “Everybody loves her butt.” When an uproar began among parents, cheer coach Patti Uttech said “we have run it this way for years and have never had a problem.” But the body shaming “awards” have been an ongoing issue that has brought complaints on multiple occasions. School district officials met with Uttech to discuss the banquet, and she was asked to write letters of apology — and resign. Uttech reportedly apologized, but not only didn’t resign, she continues to coach the cheerleading squad. (MS/Kenosha News) ...
