Now That’s an Opening
Devan Merck, 23, was 12 when doctors discovered she has Küster-Hauser syndrome: she had no vagina. Surgeons were able to build her one using skin from her buttocks. She still can’t have children, but her ovaries have eggs, so she and her husband, Trent, are hoping to have a child using a surrogate. “Everything I’ve been through has made me stronger and I think I will make an amazing mother,” she says. “All I’ve ever wanted is to be a mum and after everything I’ve been through, finally feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel.” (RC/London Metro) ...I wouldn’t touch that with a 10-foot pole. (Note: The newspaper didn’t say where Merck lives.)Original Publication Date: 18 December 2016
