Play Ball
A woman in Kingsport, Tenn., answered a knock at her front door. She checked and saw there was a woman there, but when she opened the door, a masked man stepped in announcing, “This is a robbery!” She could see what appeared to be a gun in his waistband, but the 52-year-old, 4-foot-11 homeowner quickly took charge of the situation, grabbing a baseball bat she keeps behind the door and pounding him with it. That dislodged his mask, and she immediately recognized the intruder as Joe Sotello, 34, “a longtime family friend.” The ruckus caught the attention of two teen girls in the house, who came running to aid the woman, and the three of them shoved Sotello out of the house. His female accomplice, meanwhile, later identified as Sotello’s girlfriend, jumped into her car and escaped, leaving Sotello behind. He ran, but was quickly captured by responding police, and was charged with aggravated robbery, and aggravated burglary. (RC/Kingsport Times News) ...He couldn’t be much of a friend, or he would have known she was even tougher than her bat.Original Publication Date: 21 May 2017
