Ready, Set, Wait

The Tempe, Ariz., Police Department has indefinitely postponed a fundraising run it sponsors, due to the “civil unrest” spawned by police officers in other parts of the country shooting and killing unarmed black men. “I have determined that out of sensitivity, respect and support for all sides of an important debate taking place all across our great country, it is necessary to proactively postpone this year’s race,” said Chief Tom Ryff. It’s not the fundraiser itself that’s the problem, but rather the name given to the annual event when it was started three years ago — and Ryff says he doesn’t want to let the name “misconstrue intentions” about the event.
