Reasonable Accommodation

Emily Kysel, who worked for the city of Indianapolis, Ind., developed a weird allergy: to paprika. Even a whiff of the spice in a co-worker’s lunch could send her into a life-threatening reaction. The city’s coordinator for the Americans with Disabilities Act told Kysel that she could get a service dog that could alert her to paprika so she could avoid it, and Kysel got one. The first day she brought it to work, though, another employee complained: the co-worker is allergic to dogs. Kysel has now sued the city, saying it “intentionally discriminated against” her and “failed to accommodate” her disability. (RC/WRTV Indianapolis) ...Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
