Record-Breaking
When Danny Lee Bettcher, 64, of New York Mills, Minn., was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy in Otter Tail County, he told the lawman, “I am way over. Take me to jail.” Bettcher is familiar with the arrest procedure: it was his 28th arrest for drunk driving. Incredibly, Bettcher still has a valid driver’s license, but prosecutors have moved to have it revoked. Bettcher admitted in court after his 27th arrest — which at the time was noted to be a state record — that “I drink to get drunk.” In that case, he served four years in prison. From his cell, he wrote a court that “I’m trying to get my life back on track before I am released.” (RC/Minneapolis Star Tribune) ...Nope: still derailed.Original Publication Date: 15 October 2017
